Please Stop, Don’t Speak

This song was recorded at a late night jam session with two of my favourite musicians. It’s about toxic patterns and the ways they come to control us. And while that could easily be interpreted in the context of a lover, the goal of the song is to speak to something more general. In the end of the song, you don’t know if the protagonist ever actually gathers the courage to leave. But if you’re listening and you’re one of the people who needed to hear it: I hope you do.

Lyrics:

Please stop, don’t speak

Your love is choking me

When I close my eyes and I cannot sleep

I feel less alone than when you hold me

Take me, hold me, then I let you own me

Bend me, scold me, like a paper kite you throw me

Chorus:

What can I say now?

When the air is thin… how…

Can I bring myself to

Find the strength to leave you

I know, I’m weak

These words I’ll never speak

When I close my eyes and I cannot sleep

I feel less alone than when you hold me
